Terry Britt

Testimony Summary:

· At the time of the trial, he was serving time for kidnapping and attempted rape, and was about to begin serving time on federal gun charges (current).

·  Prior convictions for rape, robbery, burglary, about 25 years of time.

·  Britt mumbled his prior convictions.

·  in 2011, Britt was living in Parsons, TN with his wife, Janet. They were married in 2004.

·  He had a shoulder injury

·  Britt claims not to have never known or met any of the Bobos.

·  Britt says he does not know if his road was close to the Bobo’s.

·  He says his alibi about the bathtub totally unprompted when asked if he was interviewed by law enforcement.

·  He states he was unaware anyone tapped his phones. [1]

·  Law enforcement searched his house after “coming up with charges to keep him in jail all day.” He says they blocked off his road and treated his residence as a crime scene.

·  Britt was working as a contractor for the newspaper in Parsons.

·   Britt states he reported his sex offender status to his boss, who failed to report it to her boss, leading to 3 months of jail time for Britt.

·  Upon returning home from jail, Britt was fingerprinted.

·  Britt claims TBI took his computers and messed up his property.

·  Britt was never charged in this case.

o  Jennifer Nichols: Did you kidnap, rape, murder Holly Bobo?

o  Britt: No, I didn’t… I didn’t know the girl. I’ve never seen her in my life… That i know of.

·  Britt’s alibi: Britt woke up at 6am, drank a cup of coffee, waited for Janet to wake up. Janet and he went to Allgood’s and bought a bathtub. He states he has a receipt. Janet and he left around 8am.

·  Britt was super defensive about the exact time he left: “8-ish”

·  Britt repeatedly claims to not know the road names around his residence by memory.

·  He and Janet first looked at an Allgood’s. Then, he and Janet stopped at Janet’s workplace to tell them she was taking the day off.

·  Then, they went to another store to look for bathtubs. Then they returned to Allgood’s and bought the tub.

·  Alibi seems very nonspecific – he is defensive about it being vague.

·  Britt says he gave defense the receipt.

·  Britt is unable to give a timeline.

·  He and Janet were back at the house with the bathtub before lunch, when law enforcement arrived.

·  Why did he get rid of his second, black pickup truck? He had two at the time of the abduction, and one at the trial.

·  Seems to be trying to demean defense attorney/make her feel stupid.

·  They had three vans, two red and one white.

·  His story about going to Buck’s Building Supply changed – that was where he originally said they went that day.

·  He said Janet was with him the whole day, but phone records show he called her.

·  Janet saves “all receipts”, but she doesn’t save all the receipts in the safe.

·  Britt claims not to know what’s in the safe.

·  Britt states that, upon getting home around noon, he did not go anywhere else that day.

·  The first thing Britt said to law enforcement was, “i didn’t rape nobody,” referring to Holly, before the agents even said anything.

·  Brenda Seagraves, his former wife, had called him to inform him of Holly’s abduction.

·  Britt says it is likely that, on the phone with Brenda Seagraves, he said he didn’t rape anyone that day.

·  Britt says he did not know Natalie Bobo, but states he saw Natalie Bobo at a party. [2]

·  Britt states he had never spoken to Natalie Bobo.

·  Britt states that, at the party, he was doing a job, and Natalie and another girl were drunk and on drugs.

·  Britt states he does not remember offending Natalie so much he was asked to leave the party.

·  Britt denies seeing Natalie and Holly Bobo at Dollar General.

·  Britt, about his cell phone: “Tell me how I lied, and I’ll tell you if I did or not.”

·  He claims not to have never had a cell phone.

·  He then admits to having a cell phone that he used, and took with him on jobs, and called Janet with frequently.

·  He states he is not required to turn his phone number over to the sex offender registry.

·  He states he cannot remember Janet’s phone number.

·  Britt states there would have been no reason for Janet to call him if they were together all day.

·  Britt states he does not remember purchasing the cell phones a month before Holly’s disappearance.

o  Britt: “I’ve never purchased a phone from Walmart or anywhere else.”

·  Britt denies having a Supersaver card at Walmart.

·  Britt denies that the phones were pre-paid.

·  He denies buying a chainsaw a month after Holly disappeared.

·  He denies buying silicone lubricant shortly before Holly’s disappearance.

·  Britt admits the bathtub was leaking, but it took him a few weeks to install it.

·  Britt states he does not remember his own phone number.

·  Britt states he was a heavy smoker.

·  Britt states he did not know about any stalking allegations against him in Parsons.

·  Britt states he purchased a trailer for $1,000 to store items from his residence. He insists it is not insulated to store cold things in.

·  Britt states he has two past convictions for rape, two past convictions for sexual assault, and a current sexual assault conviction.

·  He states the sheriffs pulled up in the driveway the morning of Holly’s abduction, asked him where he had been that day, and then left, he believes before noon.

·  Britt admits officers searched his house on one occasion with him present and spent the entire day there.

·  On the wiretap, Britt says he is unsure whether he said to his sister, “Be careful what you say. They may be recording in our home.”[3]

·  He does state he was thinking they may have potentially wiretapped the home: “If you’d been through what I’d been through, you’d be the same way.”

·  Britt states he does not trust law enforcement because they have “done [him] dirty.”

·  Law enforcement seized three of Britt’s vehicles the day of Holly’s abduction.

·  Terry Britt and Skip Boney would ride around and drink beer and get drunk.

·  Britt insisted this was not at night.

·  Britt states he was originally from Lexington, Tennessee.

·  Britt states he had a paper route with the newspaper, beginning at night, dropping off papers to convenience stores. His route would end early in the morning, 3am – 4am.

·  Britt states it is possible he had been searching for the words “rape,” “abduction,” and “kidnapping” before his computers were taken.

·  He states it is “possible” he had been watching pornography involving “rape,” “abduction,” and “kidnapping.”

·  Britt states he was in possession of two gun on one occasion when the police visited him.

·  Jennifer Thompson asks him if he remembers agreeing to plead guilty to the Holly Bobo murder in exchange for a 20-year sentence. Britt begins laughing at her, and then, it is like a switch is flipped and he looks totally angry: “I’m saying that’s a lie!”

·  When asked about being interviewed by Terry Dicus: “Oh, yeah, we all know Dicus, don’t we?”

·  Britt denies describing Holly as having a “somewhat perfect body… like a toy, some would say.”

·  Britt states that, based on the pictures of Holly he saw, she “looked good,” and “whoever got her probably got her for a sex slave.”

·  Britt states he does not remember referring to Holly as an “it.” He then laughs and states he does not know and may have said that.

·  He states he probably said, “If you killed it, you would have to hide the body.”

·  Then he states he was being sarcastic about calling her an “it.”

·  He says probably whoever got Holly got her for “sex purposes.”

·  Britt admits law enforcement focused on him because of his history.

o  Britt, when asked if law enforcement did not stop looking into him as a suspect after he gave them the receipt: “I guess they thought it was forged or something, I don’t know.”

·  Britt attempts to explain to the jury that, when you type in “porn” on the Internet, all kinds of content and viruses comes up, essentially denying he looked up “rape,” “kidnapping,” and “abduction” porn.

·  Britt states Terry Dicus “has lost his job,” and he “wishes he’d get on food stamps.”

·  Britt and Jennifer Nichols portray Britt as a victim, stating they will plaster his face all over the media again.

·  Britt admits the receipt is handwritten.

·  Britt states his receipt was verified by Allgood’s. [4]

·  Britt denies specifically searching the term “rape” on his computer. Same with “abduction” and “kidnapping.” [5]

·  Britt leaves the witness stand smirking.

[1] Contradicts Dicus’s testimony that he told Janet over the phone that he was suspicious TBI had wiretapped the phones.

[2] Contradicts his earlier statement that he had never known or met any of the Bobos.

[3]  Contradicts his earlier statement about not knowing the home was wiretapped

[4] This was false.

[5] Contradicts the later testimony of the TBI agent who searched his computers.
